Born and raised in Oakland, CA. and being the second oldest of 4 children, Vanessa was groomed with survival and leadership skills at an early age from her mother. Being obese since childhood, Vanessa suffered from bullying and discrimination during her adolescence, teenage and even adult years. Determined not to allow people to define her, Vanessa became not only an advocate for herself, but for others suffering from discrimination and injustice.
